pound under RH9

Even with all patches and upgrades in place, I was never able to get
pound-1.4 to work under RH9. I suspect it was something to do with the
change in threading, which changed significantly in RH9. (Pound-1.4 ran
reliably and well under RH7.3, indicidentally.) Now that we have the new
1.5 release, I'd like to know if anyone is using the 1.5 version of pound
successfully under RH9.

I have no good answer for you - there seems to be a real problem with RH9, as

Funnilly enough Gentoo seems to work fine (same kernel, same gcc). Mysterious

are they both running the same threads package? Red Hat backported the
Next Generation POSIX threads to the 2.4.?? Kernel. there's obviously
some not so subtle differences between the two threads packages. For
example, I was able to trigger a process lockup with the old threads
package and this was a well-known problem but never fixed. The problem
went away with the Next Generation POSIX threads and I stopped having
lockups. Obviously, other folks are having very different experiences.

Isn't it nice how computers make our lives simple and we now have all
this leisure time doing what we want just like they predicted in the
1950s. All I know as I want my vertical takeoff and landing flying car.

As for Gentoo, did they actually use the same threads library as Red Hat
or did they use a different version? Another question for the original
party is are they using the absolute latest kernel from Red Hat?

Very strange indeed, as I run RH9 on this machine with Pound (1.4), and have
had no difficulty at all.

Are you running on a uniprocessor or an MP? My problems occur when
running on a dual processor Athlon.

Ah - that probably makes a big difference. This is uniprocessor Intel.

Do you have a test environment to try the 2.6 kernel series? The threading
stuff is supposedly the new NPTL backported from 2.6 into the 2.4 series...
I'm somewhat curious if the problem is in the backport, or if Pound will see
difficulty on multi-processor linux machines running the 2.6 kernel.
