COmplete newbie question on pound

I am trying to build it on rh 9

and even though it sees /usr/include/openssl/ssl.h configure says it
cant find it

RH installs openssl libs in /usr/lib and the includes in
/usr/include/openssl... it throws up a bunch of errors and then pukes on
teh floor

Any help greatly appreciated thanks

Sam

You need to download and install the ssl dev rpm. You also should
upgrade everything to the bleeding edge, particularly the kernel and
the glibc.

RH in their wisdom reorganized the ssl stuff and so you'll have to change
a bunch of paths to get things to compile. Be careful not to mix the
Openssl release with the RH one as there are differences...

And, when you get it all together, I suspect it won't work. At least that
was my experience. (Anyone out there running pound successfully on RH9?)
I suspect the threading, but even with it forced behave like the earlier
mechanism, pound seesm to fail. My machine is dual Athlon running RH9.

BTW, everything works fine a very similar machine running RH7.3. RH8 and
RH9 have been nothing but trouble.

I think that it's a problem with Red Hat Linux 9.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
In file included from /usr/include/openssl/ssl.h:179,
                 from configure:2428:
/usr/include/openssl/kssl.h:72:18: krb5.h: No such file or directory
--------------------------------------------------------------------

A quick workaround is to define before ./configure:

$ CPPFLAGS="-DOPENSSL_NO_KRB5" ./configure
  or
$ CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/kerberos/include" ./configure

Please try it.

I have created rpms which build 'out of the box'. See
http://www.invoca.ch/pub/packages/pound/
for the src rpms.
Then build with 'rpmbuild --rebuild pound-20031031-2.src.rpm'.

Takesako San:
Rest of all respondents:

Thankyou. I hacked it last night after I sent the mail. One of the
things I noticed was that since it could not find krb5.h I hacked the
Makefile to add it after the configure got run. I also hacked config.h
tp say #define HAVE_OPENSSL_H 1

Then it built fine. Infact I ran ldd on the binary to find that all
dynamic links are satisfied on my rh9 machine. Will it work correctly,
I dont know!! Will let you know.

Again, Thankyou all

Thankyou Takesako san

Sam
