Hello,
I've had some strange slowness/timeouts with Pound and IE/Mozilla
(Windows XP) requesting an Apache 2 server with keepalive on.
Is this a known problem, or only I was such a lamer to think this solved
my headache and it will resurface again?

It seems that it may be totally unrelated to Pound. I thought that it
causes the problems that without Pound (but with HTTP) the servers were
fast and there were no problems. When I switched to Pound with the same
servers, problems arose.
The one thing I did not take account that without Pound it was plain
HTTP, and with it it was HTTPS, and Pound did the crypto.
It seems that the problem is at the browsers, at least I found a link:
http://www.horde.org/faq/admin/trouble/index.php#t29
about this.
I don't really know what the problem really is, because on two Windows
XPs the first was not working with keepalive on (neither mozilla or IE
did) and on the second, with the same version of the softwares was OK.
Turning keepalive off solved the problem, now everything is fast and
reliable.

OK, now I understand what is it that you talk about (keep alive is also a TCP
option, therefore the confusion).
I think you want to look at the NoHTTPS11 configuration option. Basically it
tells Pound not to do HTTP 1.1 over SSL connections regardless of what the
browser wants, and was intended exactly as a work-around for this problem.[...]
