I tried to find an answer myself, but wasn't able to :-( I have one 
backend, that pound isn't able to connect to. I have "Server" set to 
30, but the "backend xxx connect: Connection timed out" message appears 
right after I try to visit an URL (same effect with no "Server" 
setting). But if I try to connect to the backend directly with lynx, it 
is possible. Any hint what to look for? I already tried with ethereal, 
but that didn't help.

While writing this I did a quick test with 1.7: no problem there.
