General config question

I will throw this out. Please tell me if the info is around as I cannot find
it.

We run ZEO with 2 public Zope clients (2.7.2) and have squid in front of it.
Using a small python redirector to distribute requests to the backend Zope
servers.

Can anyone offer pseudo-specifics on the best way to set this up? Would like to
keep using squid but how can I use Pound in this setup for load
balancing/redirecting? Or is this a wrong approach for pound?

Thanks

Allen

We run many (5+) zope clients, some with ZEO, some without, with Pound at
a front-end. You can replace squid (assuming you have configured it as
a reverse proxy) with Pound. Why would you want to keep squid in the
mix?

For caching and acceleration I guess? That is part of my question...what parts
do I need to keep?

I am a DOS/Windows guy and some Linux...enough to be dangerous. I know Zope on
the app side but our main server guy left and this was the setup he had in
place. Heard great things about Pound and since our site is under load and
going down all the time I thought I would try changing some things. Or would
squid and a hardware base load balancer work better? I just need someone to
hear my story and offer a suggestion or two. I will do the digging but still
not comfortable with all the server stuff so I am shy to make big changes
without knowing all the details.

Too much to ask? Sorry...been doing a lot of heading pounding lately!

Thanks

Allen

Take a careful look at your squid conifguration.

Using squid for caching and for accelerating (I assume). That is my problem. I
inherited this setup even though I have been involved and familiar with our
operation for several years...just not deep enough to know all the magic behind
the scenes. Not being very Linux savvy hurts too.

If no squid, then just Zope for caching? Just trying to get a handle on how all
the parts do and should fit together.

Thanks

Is squid configured as a reverse proxy or as a cache or both? If squid is
configured to cache, is it effective? Dynamic sites usually don't cache
well unless they are carefully constructed to do so.
