Hi , recently I installed pound (proxyserver)version 1.9.4 on a simple
Ubuntu server dapper version 6.0.6.
The pound 1.9.4 installation was done as repository.
I never get it working for my purpose and I was adviced to upgrate to the
latest version of pound is 2.1.5
There is no repository of the latest Pound version in Ubuntu so I have to
compile it myself.
I'm unskilled in Linux ;)
So I started with wget() to get the latest version from www.apsis.ch
<BLOCKED::http://www.apsis.ch>
$ wget http://www.apsis.ch/pound/Pound-2.1.5.tgz
<BLOCKED::http://www.apsis.ch/pound/Pound-2.1.5.tgz>
After download (wget), run tar , unpacking the files and the results are
now in directory
/home/dir/Pound-2.1.5
Then I run this:
$ pound stop
$ Sudo apt-get remove pound
cd ../Pound-2.1.5
$ .configure --with-ssl=ssl_dir
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo apt-get build-dep pound
$ sudo pound -v -f /usr/local/etc/pound.cfg
With $sudo sysv-rc-conf, I was able to make a cross somewhere in the table
( 2,3,4,5) that I had seen before, to make the pound program start at
reboot.
with
$ ps aux ww I t see process pound... and With
$ apt-cache policy pound ->
Pound:
installed: 1.8.2-1Sarge1
candidate: 1.8.2-1Sarge1
Version table:
*** 1.8.2-1Sarge1 0
500 http://http.us.debian.org
<BLOCKED::http://http.us.debian.org/>
stable/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
So far so good. Only maybe I did something stupid because it loks like the
apt-get upgrade has downloaded a very old version 1.8.2 and made not
version pound-2.1.5 !!
Will somebody be so kind ( and patient ) to explain me what I have done
wrong?
