Error 500 from Pound 2.4.2

We are running Pound on 2.4.2, Centos 4.3, built from source.
Today I noticed that in the /var/log/messages file, Pound reported error 500
5 times. When I checked the BE server logs, I only saw error 500 reported
twice.
Intermittently, I've noticed that Pound will terminate a connection without
any apparent cause. I notice it more when I try to download files (any size
really, typically 300K or more) and end up with a downloaded file that is
truncated.
There's nothing in the messages file around the error 500 return codes that
would indicate why this is occurring. It is also happening on both GET and
POST. Pound is not running out of memory (it runs at 8MB out of 2GB).

Most likely this is a Pound time-out during the transfer. Have a look in
the Pound log files. If necessary increase the Timeout value(s).
